This is my 32nd year at Primavera School, 29 years as the Director. Private education has been my life for the past 47 years. I graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 1972 with a B.A. in Elementary Education, and I currently hold an Arizona State Teaching Certificate.
I received my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from NAU in May, 2002, and my Arizona State Administrator’s certificate in May, 2003. I am also a mentor with Prescott College and NAU, working with new teachers. I have recently completed a course entitled "Screening for Dyslexia," where I learned how to accurately screen children for Dyslexia.
My teaching experience embraces early childhood education: 5 years teaching 1st grade at the Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas; 5 years as the Kindergarten Director at Colorado Academy in Denver, Colorado; and 3 years teaching preschool in my home in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
I moved to Prescott from Cheyenne in 1987 and began my career at Primavera, first as the Preschool Director and then as Administrative Director. I have one daughter, Laura, age 37, who attended Primavera through elementary school, graduated from Prescott High School with honors in 2000, and from Pitzer College in Claremont, CA with her B.S in English and World Literature in May, 2004. Laura received her Master’s in English from the University of Arizona and is currently the head of the English Department at Yavapai College, My granddaughter, Gracie, is four years old, and my granddaughter, June, is two this year. They both will no doubt be Primavera penguins one day soon!
My husband Warren and I have been married for 47 years. He is an attorney and a retired Superior Court Judge of Yavapai County.
Primavera School is a joyful and enriching community where parents, staff, and students have a shared vision of educational excellence.
We are successful in providing high quality early childhood and elementary education for the children of Prescott because we believe in and have respect for the “whole child” and their individual learning styles. I look forward to providing consistent and nurturing support to staff, students, and parents as we envision our future together at Primavera School.
This is my 16th year at Primavera, where I have grown and developed as a teacher alongside the students. I completed the Master of Arts Program at Prescott College in July, 2007 and received a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Environmental Education.
I earned my Arizona teaching credentials in 2006. I received the “Outstanding Water Educator” Award in 2009. This year I am teaching the third/fourth grade classroom where I will be integrating my passion and experience for outdoor education along with Rebecca Pattis as my co-teacher! On July 1, 2014, my wife Rachael and I had our baby boy, Miles Tanner Jannone! He is the joy of our lives, and is now at Primavera School in Kindergarten!
I am a native of England and have lived in the USA for over 40 years. I have been with Primavera since 1974, so I have seen Primavera from its earliest days! I received my degree from Prescott College in Early Childhood Education.
My interests which I bring to the classroom are literature, theater, art, languages, poetry, recorder, and dance. I believe that learning another language at a young age is important. I have taught all grades at Primavera except for preschool. And with my new position as the Enrichment Specialist, I will be bringing my passions to all of the primary students!
My son was one of the early Primavera students, and I still keep in touch with many Primavera students and their parents.
Our school has grown and expanded beyond any of the early teacher’s and parent’s dreams. Education is always under scrutiny from one generation to the next. I believe that Primavera’s staff, both past and present, have always been committed to respecting the dignity and individuality of the growing child.
I am very pleased to be a part of this school and its philosophy.
I have been with Primavera School for 15 years. I began my career with my practicum and internship through Yavapai College in Primavera’s pre-Kindergarten class.
I graduated from Yavapai College in May of 2004 with an A.A. in Early Childhood Education. Prior to attending Yavapai College, I was in the Air Force for a year and a half as an “All Purpose Vehicle Mechanic.”
I finished my B.A. in Early Childhood Education in December, 2008 at Northern Arizona University, and have my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and teacher certification at the University of Phoenix. Mei-lin, my daughter, is now 17 years old and attends Northpoint High School.
This is my fourth year at Primavera School, and I’m excited to be in the pre-kindergarten classroom once again in our new classroom space! I have 20 plus years teaching preschool in the Prescott area.
My credentials include a degree in Early Childhood Education, a certificate from the National Center for Montessori Education, and several other continuing education certificates. My goal is to guide children and enhance their joy of learning with discoveries of the natural world, introducing them to the wonders of letters and numbers in a self-paced, nurturing environment that fosters the child’s inner need to explore the world.
I have been a part of the Primavera Family since moving here in 1994. Discovering the “Primavera Difference” long ago, both of my daughters completed their elementary education here from Preschool through 5th grade. I have been actively involved in the school ever since with many school activities, fundraisers, and the production of the school’s annual Yearbook. I also served on the Board of Directors for 11 years. Now my daughters are successful young adults.
This is a special place to be involved with and I am looking forward to my 11th year assisting the staff and families as their office administrator and to teaching art to all the students!
I am so excited to begin my 6th year of teaching at Primavera School! This will be my 24th year teaching. I have taught in both public and parochial schools, and nearly all of my experience has been in the first grade.I am looking forward to teaching a multi-aged K-1st classroom this year!
I have also taught reading remediation for two years. Through it all I’ve learned that I love small, community-like schools and first graders! I believe education encompasses much more than academic learning. I must guide students as they grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. I believe all students can learn and it is my privilege to help each student achieve all they can. I love teaching, learning, and the innate beauty of children.
I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from NAU and am a certified reading specialist. My husband Rob and I have 3 children: Haley (13), Sierra (9), and Aaron (7). They are all Primavera Penguins! Outside of school, I love to read and enjoy spending time with my family.
This is my 6th year teaching at Primavera, although I am no stranger to this wonderful and enduring little school. My daughter, Emmy, attended the Primavera Preschool program more than twenty years ago. Carol was the Director then as now, and my mother, Sharon Rusling, worked in the Pre-K program. My mom succumbed to cancer in 1995. She was my first, and best teacher, an inspiration to me, and an extraordinary woman. My husband, JW, is a sustainable builder. Our daughter, Emmy (30), recently graduated from NAU with a BS in Applied Human Behavior and works in behavioral health with children. Connor (26) recently graduated from ASU with a BFA in Intermedia. Aidan (20) graduated from PHS, and Dallin (13) attends Prescott Mile High Middle School. We have always been seekers and proponents of discovering ways to educate, nurture, and support the whole child.
I have extensive background in the arts, specifically visual art and design, clothing design, dance, and martial arts. I received my BSED from NAU in 2012 and taught Integrated Technology to grades K-8 at Mingus Springs Charter School. My teaching strengths lie in my diverse educational and experiential background which allows me to provide rich, creative, and exciting hands-on learning opportunities and discussions in and out of the classroom. I deeply respect each child’s brilliance and natural curiosity, and I work daily to foster important personal connections with my students. I am both honored and blessed to be a part of the Primavera family and teaching Pre-Kindergarten this year!
It‘s so exciting to be starting my 5th year at Primavera! I started working here after graduating from Prescott High School and now attend Yavapai College, where I am currently obtaining my degree and certification in Early Childhood Education. I work with both pre-kindergarten classrooms, and I also work with the primary children for After School. It’s truly a privilege to be around children of all ages throughout my day! I have lived in Prescott for nine years and love calling this beautiful town my home! I enjoy reading comics, playing video games, and hiking around the various cities in Arizona outside of teaching at Primavera.
My husband and I have always been committed to our children’s education. For this reason, all three of our children (42, 39, and 25) have attended Primavera School. Pam Brown was teaching first grade in those days and gave them a great start. My educational background begins with a Bachelors of Arts in Dance, and continues with licensing and certification in Massage and Bowen Therapy.
I am on my way to my teaching credential and am currently enrolled in Yavapai College’s Early Childhood Education Program. My teaching experience includes three years teaching in the Primavera Afterschool Program fifteen years ago! I am delighted and honored to be teaching with Ms. Sue in the Pre-kindergarten classroom!
I was born and raised here in Prescott and attended local schools. The path to college took me away for about six years where I began by studying Creative Writing and Sociology in Oregon (at Linfield College), and completed my journey by earning my B.A. in Fine Art with a major in Product Design from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
After completing my studies in Art, I came back home to Prescott and later earned my post-baccalaureate certification in Elementary Education from Pima Community College. I completed my student teaching experience here at Primavera in Mrs. Jenni’s 2nd grade class. I was hired to join the Primavera team in 2nd grade, then as the assistant teacher in Kindergarten, and now I have my own classroom in the 2nd grade for 4 years!
When I’m not in the classroom, I can usually be found in my studio where I am growing my modest jewelry business or exploring new techniques and processes that speak to me. I find that my art not only fuels me, but it fuels my teaching in the classroom!
This is my 5th year working at Primavera School. I started working for Primavera in 2014 as the Primary Afterschool Teacher and have served the school in many capacities since that time. I am thrilled to be working with such wonderful children, parents, and co-workers! I look forward to tutoring our primary students in the area of reading using the Barton System for dyslexic children. I have a BA in Business/Marketing and recently earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. My teaching experience is 6 years being a Teacher’s Assistant in Pre-K in Oklahoma and over 10 years of experience working and teaching people with disabilities. I am also a Navy Veteran.
My husband Jason McKinney and I are blessed with 4 wonderful girls. Ashleigh, 24 ,Lindsey and Tabitha, aged 20, and Bella, age 11. This year I will also be teaching in the pre-kindergarten with Ms. Mia and Ms. Amanda. .
I have a deep love of music and creativity, and it brings me such joy to share them with the children at Primavera School. My degree is in Music Therapy, and I have a private practice working with babies as they are born, elders as they pass over and all the many life transitions that happen in-between. Music, like life, is about listening and expression. During music class we explore these themes as we sing and play musical games. Most importantly, we discover that every voice can sing and that we are all creators.
I am so excited to start my sixth year of teaching, and for my second year at Primavera! I’ve taught art for two years for students from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade and then for one year in a 3rd/4th grade combo classroom, as well as the year here with the preschool students. My degree is in Educational Studies with an emphasis in Art Education from Arizona State University. My hobbies include embroidery, kayaking, and pointing out every single dog I see within a five mile radius!
I have found a love for life-long learning and want to share my experiences with my students. I grew up in Vermont, where the wilderness and tight knit community raised me. I moved out west and graduated from Prescott College with a Major in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Expeditionary Learning" and a minor in "Wilderness Therapy." Primavera was the perfect fit for me to continue my education and implement creative and nature-based lessons. I enjoy elementary grades because I feel I can make a difference at this age and provide a foundation for the rest of a student‘s educational career. We cover science, math, language arts, and social studies in thematic, relevant, current and fun ways! I co-teach with Mr. Dan and our combined expertise make for a well-rounded class. Our class has an opportunity to play in Arizona’s own backyard, and we cover many themes that include nature and are able to weave in camping trips, hiking, rafting, field trips, ropes courses, etc. I chose to work at Primavera because I’ve spent a lot of time building my philosophy of learning and this school closely aligns with my views and teaches in a holistic manner.
